This was my first canoe trip on the Susquehanna, and my first overnight canoe trip ever. The party was a group of guys that were in my brother's wedding. None of us had any experience to speak of. The water was relatively low, so there were really no problems with strong currents. However the river is very wide and has many large rocks under the water surface which can create some tricky currents.
For the most part we did fine. No capsized boats. We carried tons of gear. We got stuck a few times, but nothing so bad that anyone had to get out of the boat. We camped on one of the designated islands. It was kind of mushy, and there weren't well defined camp sites. The sights along the way were expansive views of the river and reedy shores of islands. Unfortunately it rained steadily on Sunday which drove us to the shore at a spot much higher than we had planned. The people from Blue Mountain were nice enough to pick us up at no extra charge.
